What happens to transparency when PNG becomes JPG?
JPG has no transparency, so those parts get the background colour you pick (white by default). Save as PNG or WebP to keep it.
Which formats are supported?
It opens JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC (iPhone photos), AVIF, GIF, BMP, TIFF, PSD, SVG and ICO, and saves JPG, PNG, WebP or ICO (favicon). Animated GIFs keep their first frame; PSD files become their visible layers merged.
Does converting lower the quality?
PNG is lossless. JPG and WebP are compressed a little according to the quality value (92 by default); higher is closer to the original.
